COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College baseball team swept visiting Indiana University Southeast today at Raider Field.
The Blue Raiders (17-22) ended their four-game losing streak with a 17-11 win in the opener and an 8-2 victory in the nightcap.
In game one, Lindsey Wilson senior Mark Jurczynski and freshman Joseph Willis combined for four home runs and seven RBIs in the 17-11 win.
The pair helped the Blue Raider offense pound out 11 hits and score at least three runs in three different innings.
After falling behind 3-0 and 6-3 after the first two innings, Lindsey Wilson took an 8-6 lead following home runs from Jurczynski and Willis in the five-run third inning.
IU Southeast (19-16-1) tied the game as Beau Manning and Drew Locascio hit back-to-back home runs to chase Lindsey Wilson sophomore starter David Pis. Pis finished allowing eight runs -- five earned on eight hits in three-plus innings of work.
Sophomore Luis Parra halted the Grenadier rally striking out the next three IU Southeast batters and preserving the 8-8 tie game. Parra retired nine straight before the Grenadiers scored three times in the seventh inning.
A two-run fifth gave the Blue Raiders the lead for good and a seven-run sixth provided Lindsey Wilson with the nine-run cushion en route to the win. Lindsey Wilson freshman Rosnay Liendo provided the big blow in the seventh with a grand slam -- his first career home run -- to give the Blue Raiders a 17-8 lead.
Three meaningless runs in the top of the seventh produced the 17-11 final.
Parra earned the win allowing three runs on thee hits and striking out seven in four innings of work.
Jurczynski finished the game going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Willis ended 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, three runs scored and five RBIs. Senior Nathan Bray finished two hits, two stolen bases, three runs and three RBIs.
In game two, senior Daniel Rector hit a home run and freshmen pitchers Jeremy Greene and Jose Castro combined for two-run, seven hitter in the Blue Raiders' 8-2 win.
Rector and Willis combined for three hits and four RBIs to lead the Blue Raider bats.
Greene picked up his team-leading fourth win of the season allowing two runs on four hits in 3-2/3 innings of work. Castro finished the game without giving up a run and allowing three hits in 3-1/3 innings.
