COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College track & field has signed a pair of standout race walkers from the Texas Walking Club, coach Edwin Hagans announced on Thursday.

Ricardo and Roberto Vergara have combined for five medals (two gold and three silver) at the AAU 3,000 meter nationals and seven medals in the USATF 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter nationals.

“We are obviously elated about signing Ricardo and Roberto and what they can bring to our track and field program,” Hagans said. “They are both world-class athletes with the potential to compete at the highest level of their discipline.”

The twin brothers have been named high school All-American on 24 occasions and each set national records in the AAU 14-year old, 15-16 year old and 17-18 year old divisions.

“They are both very accomplished and well tested on the national level,” Hagans said. “I anticipate they will both have outstanding careers at Lindsey Wilson College.”

The pair will begin their collegiate career in the 2008-09.
