COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson men's tennis remained unbeaten in Mid-South Conference play today with a 6-3 win over visiting Pikeville (Ky.) at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The No. 4-ranked Blue Raiders improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the MSC with the win while No. 19-ranked Pikeville falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Lindsey Wilson seized control from the beginning, winning all three doubles matches to take a commanding lead in the race to five points.
Marlon Dal Pont and Sam Rogersen gave the Blue Raiders an early 1-0 team lead with an 8-1 win over UPike's Gonzalo Garcia and Luis Lerchundi in the No. 3-seeded doubles match.
Fabrico Morales and Giles Cornelis pushed the Blue Raider lead to 2-0 with an 8-6 win over Sven Rodenbusch and Marcos Fondelius in the top doubles match.
Fernando Bogajo and Franciso Charters secured the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over UPike's Connor Smith and Dmitry Babenkov.
Bogajo and Morales dominated at the top two singles matches to secure the Lindsey Wilson win.
Bogajo defeated Rodenbusch 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Morales won 6-0, 6-1 over Smith in the second-seeded singles match.
Cornelis claimed the final Lindsey Wilson point with a straight sets -- 7-5, 7-6 (1) -- win over Miguel Perez at No. 5.
The Blue Raiders defaulted at No. 6 and Dal Pont retired at No. 3 after dropping the first set in a tiebreak with the overall match in hand.
Fondelius secured the final point of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Rogersen.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 19 as the Blue Raiders face Bluefield (Va.) in Georgetown, Ky.
