COLUMBIA, Ky. -- A pair of Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis players earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association-National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics honors this week, ITA officials announced on Monday.
Lindsey Wilson junior Gillis Cornelis and freshman Fernando Bogajo were two of 16 players to earn regional ITA-NAIA honors.
Cornelis was selected the East Region Arthur Ashe, Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship recipient.
The award is presented to the player that demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
Bogajo earned the East Region Rookie of the Year.
Bogajo finished his freshman season with a 19-5 singles record playing all 24 matches as the Blue Raiders' top singles seed. He finished with a 13-12 doubles mark playing all but three matches as LWC's top doubles seed.
Lindsey Wilson's season ended with a second round loss in the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championships earlier in the week. The Blue Raiders finished 19-6, including 6-0 in the Mid-South Conference -- claiming the MSC regular season and tournament titles.
